Nestled in the rolling hills of central Lancashire, a location that is both very private and very secluded but also one which is afforded expansive views across acre after acre of rolling countryside, sits a traditional farmhouse built from local stone.

Nothing unusual there, you’d be forgiven for thinking, however this is a family home that is nothing short of incredible thanks to the stunning re-development and transformation it has undergone in recent years, a project which Majik House have been honoured to be involved with.

We’re not at liberty to identify our client, or the location or the name of the property – they have requested privacy, and they and this wonderful home deserve to enjoy their rural idyll in unfettered tranquilly.

Leading architects Mason Gillibrand was appointed by the family to extend the farmhouse and incorporate the adjoining barns and structures, and to help create the home of their dreams. The award-winning practice introduced an incredible oak, glass and steel sweeping central staircase which connects ground, first and second floors beneath a glazed roof, exposed timber roof trusses and stunning contemporary chandelier.

Jit Mistry led the Majik House side of the project: “This was an incredibly expansive project, undertaken over a period of two years and in two phases. The family lived there throughout, so the phased approach meant that they didn’t have to relocate whilst works were taking place.”

“This very traditional building is now an incredibly modern building, one where historical construction materials and weathered character on the exterior juxtapose with striking interior design and the very best home automation, AV systems and lighting control.”

Working in close collaboration with the Mason Gillibrand team, Majik House designed and installed the entire smart home system in all 12 rooms, a network which includes advanced Lutron lighting controls, cinema room and whole house audio which includes high-quality sound system in the outdoor terraces and gardens.

The lighting design was also by Mason Gillibrand, with interior design by Michael Crane Design.

“The two areas of the home which will really capture the imagination and demonstrate the quality of design and installation are the cinema room and that amazing staircase.” Continues Jit.

“I’m trying my best to avoid the obvious puns, but the James Bond-themed cinema room is, as you would expect, a real licence to thrill. The design is, on first impression, quite minimal and understated; that was very intentional, it’s a space where they can relax and enjoy a movie on the sumptuous horseshoe sofa without any distractions from floor-standing speakers or obtrusive light fittings.”

The Bond feel of the cinema also includes a double-width sliding entrance door which, when open, conceals itself behind the cinema screen wall.

“The Dolby Atmos 7.2.2 sound system is primarily Sonance Reference speakers with Velodyne subs powered by an Arcam AVR. The projector for this cinema room is an Epson 4K UHD Projector and a 4K acoustically transparent fixed screen behind which the main speakers are hidden.”

“All of this is controlled by Control4. Over the years, Control4 has become our ‘go to’ solution for Majik House and we consider them to be the leaders in home automation control systems.”

The flush-mounted LED ceiling lights and inset wall lights are all Majik House’s own designs, created as a result of over 25-years’ experience in smart home control and lighting systems and, again, is controlled either by the Control4 remote or the sleek Lutron wall-mounted touchscreen units.

“There is HDTV throughout the entire house, lighting with pre-programmed mood settings, automated blinds – there’s so much going on behind the walls or under the floors, yet none of this interferes or takes away from the remarkable architecture and beautiful interior design.”

“We’re also particularly proud of the system rack created for this project. I know it’s not something that will inspire many people and, to be honest, only a few people will ever see it, but Kris Winder has really taken our racks up another level in recent years and this is one of the very best.”

“I’d like to think that our work has been very sympathetic to the old farmhouse, respectful of the heritage whilst delivering the user convenience and high performance from a considered, well-planned and expertly installed smart home system.” Concludes Jit.

“This is the sort of project that we’d like every potential Majik House customer to see for themselves, and to realise the potential within an old property that can be realised by a progressive-thinking architect, the creativity of an interior designer and the application of one of the UK’s longest-established and trusted home automation specialists.”

However, we’ll just let the images do the talking as this is a private family home that will be enjoyed for many years ahead by one very lucky family.
