Together For Cinema: The Creative Space Centre, Preston
During November 2023, Majik House has been involved in another project with the team at Together For Cinema, the Community Interest Company founded by Ian Morrish which works with the AV industry to design and install home cinema rooms in children’s hospices and other suitable locations across the UK.
The Creative Space Centre welcomes over 700 visitors every week from special schools, day centres, nursing homes, support groups and individual families and features a number of rooms which can be tailored to suit the needs of the clients, whether it’s relaxation, exploration, learning or just to have fun.
Majik House previously worked with Together For Cinema at the Jigsaw Children’s Hospice in Carlisle. On this occasion, the project was for The Creative Space Centre in Preston, the largest multi-sensory centre in the country and an organisation that has provided sensory support for children and adults with additional needs for more than 30 years.
Tim Burrow had told Ian Morrish that they would like to be involved in another Together For Cinema project, but it was at the Integrated Systems Show in Barcelona where conversations developed between Ian and Majik House Sales & Technical Director Jit Mistry, and the Creative Space Centre project was discussed.

The initial site meeting in April 2023 at which a large room in the Centre was identified as being ideal for a new cinema suite, with Jit commencing designs for the space soon after.
“Once the spec was agreed, there was a slight delay as the Space Centre needed to get funding in place for the additional building work required.” says Jit. “The height of the ceiling needed to be lowered and, as the property is a listed building, we needed to ensure that everything was within the appropriate building regulations.”

“To be honest, the project went really smoothly and the building contractors [Chapelgreen Contracts] were really good at doing everything on time, when they said they would. The only slight delays were around the funding applications and waiting for these to come through.”
In an interview with Jit, Ian Morrish explains that the fundraising was required solely for the building work to make the room suitable for the AV install, and that all of the equipment used was donated by the manufacturers.
Likewise, the time accrued by Majik House for the consultations, design and specification including comprehensive kit list, project management, installation and programming of this new cinema room were all provided free of charge.
“This cinema room really does extend the sensory offering. This is not just a fun room, this is going to enhance the user’s – and their family’s – experience at The Creative Space Centre.” Says Ian.
“It’s amazing.” concludes Jit, “The room as it was to where it is now – you really wouldn’t think it was the same room.”
And Ian agrees, “From being in the room before to where it is now, this is a proper little cinema.”
The installation project commenced on Wednesday 15th November, with completion and final hand-over on Monday 27th November, with the official opening by BBC Radio Lancashire’s Graham Liver on Monday 4th December.
