Majik House Founder Launches Renewable Energy Enterprise

It’s virtually impossible to escape from news of increasing energy prices and rising cost of living, or the global climate change crisis, but Majik House’s Tim Burrow is bringing us all a glimmer of sunshine amongst the dark clouds with the launch of a sister company, Majik Renewables.

Actually, to be more accurate, Majik Renewables has been born out of a long-standing ethos for Tim (and the rest of the team) for the integrated smart home projects Majik House create to be more sustainable and energy efficient.

“Ever since we established the business back in 1998, new clients have always wanted to know about the cost of running all this additional tech in their homes, and it’s a reasonable question to ask.” Says Tim.

“We have always looked for the most energy efficient solution to any custom installation; where can the client make savings by drawing less power but without any compromise on the overall experience. If we are creating smart homes, then ‘smart’ also needs to reflect the energy consumption.”

“One of the biggest culprits for energy consumption is lighting, and we’re taking lighting control as far as we can with our own range of highly efficient light fittings and advanced control systems from Lutron and Rako, but everything still needs that all important electricity supply; the only thing we couldn’t control, until now.”

“Majik Renewables introduces two good friends of ours, John Cross and Simon Dale, both with proven track records of working globally in mechanical engineering and finance respectively.”

Combined with Tim’s extensive understanding of integration of systems and energy demands, the three partners represent quite a pool of knowledge and experience.

“We first started discussing renewable energy around five years ago and, whilst there were plenty of solar panels and domestic wind turbines that could generate the power, we didn’t feel ready to commit because, in our eyes, the energy storage solutions weren’t where we needed them to be.”

“For a while there were attractive financial incentives for sending any excess energy that you produced back to the national power network, however, these have been significantly reduced. Our belief is that the energy generated by your system should be in your control and stored for when you need it rather than being fed back into the grid.”

Majik Renewables have introduced some of the most advanced lithium battery systems available, utilising latest technologies and designed for lengthy service lifetime. Benefitting from a relatively compact design and size, they are incredibly efficient at energy storage and were originally designed for use in remote or power-unstable areas.

The Majik Renewables solution is also fully monitored and provides real-time feedback to the user via a smartphone or tablet, showing the energy being generated, storage levels and what – if anything – is being used from the national grid.

“We gave Majik Renewables a ‘soft launch’ in the summer and started talking to some of the people who had made enquiries with us over recent years. It was quite heartening to hear that quite a few clients had decided not to progress their conversion to renewable energy until we were in a better position to talk about what we could offer.”

Initially Majik Renewables are focusing on commercial clients, with initial interest from business sectors ranging from hospitality, farming, retail and manufacturing.

“As businesses typically have greater energy requirements than domestic properties, so the scale of any renewable energy system needs to be increased, and likewise the budget involved.”

“What will be of interest to businesses looking to invest in their own renewable energy system is that we have teamed-up with a specialist associate, Darina Ward, award winning founder of the Growthviser and Growise App, who has helped secure significant funding for sustainable energy projects – in some instances, this has been 40% of the total fees, including hardware and installation.”

The Majik Renewables website features an online grant eligibility form which will enable Darina to undertake an initial assessment of a business’s needs and suitability for a funding application.
