Where and when can we see the Majik?
There’s no hiding it… but, yes, we are hiding something. And that ‘something’ is our showroom.
It’s been an incredibly busy two years since we relocated Majik House from our previous location near Kirkby Lonsdale – where we had been based for over 12 years – to Gatebeck near Kendal, but being busy means that we’ve not had chance to complete our new showroom.
We are currently in the process of completely fitting out the new showroom so that we can start welcoming guests once again, something which we’ve sadly missed, and which customers quite rightly ask the question: “When can we visit your showroom and see your work?”
Well, the wait will soon be over, as Operations Manager, Autumn Burrow explains:
“The intention is that we will be ready to welcome visitors by the end of July 2023 and we promise it will be worth waiting for.”
“We are very fortunate that so many Majik House clients allow us to photograph and write case studies about their homes at the end of a project, and this helps illustrate the nature of the commissions we undertake, but there really is no substitute for being able to experience it for oneself.”
With a floorspace over twice that of our previous one – around 3,500 square feet compared with just over 2,000 sq/ft at our Kirkby Lonsdale site – the new showroom is turning out to be quite an undertaking but thankfully one we’re not tackling on our own.
The showroom is being created in partnership with our friends at Carvetii Town and Country Interiors, the long established designers and furniture makers who create quite exquisite, elegant living spaces with whom we have forged a close working relationship.
“Majik House have had a presence in a number of other locations across the North West over recent years, but this is the first time we have embarked on a partnership with another business to such an extent.” Explains Tim Burrow, MD and Founder of Majik House.
“The guys at Carvetii are very much on the same page as us. It’s quite a meeting of minds with customer service, applied innovation and quality of work being the fundamental pillars of both our businesses.”
Unfortunately, our ‘customer first’ approach has meant that progress on the showroom has been repeatedly pushed back as we focus on commitments to our clients and their projects.
“To be honest, we wouldn’t have it any other way.” Says Tim, “I’m never going to allow a client project to slip behind or have corners cut for the sake of getting our own showroom ready.”
This does, however, have the knock-on effect when it comes to prospective customers wanting to visit Majik House and gain inspiration for their own home – we simply can’t welcome anyone to our ‘work in progress’ for the next few months.
What can customers expect from the new Majik House showroom?
“The new showroom is all on one level with different zones where we’re including every living space you might expect in a home – a master bedroom, living area, bathroom, kitchen and dining, even a utility and boot room.” Continues Autumn.
Some of the spaces are quite expansive but others have intentionally been kept very modest to help illustrate that smart home systems can be effectively incorporated into relatively small spaces in a general or normal home.
As you might have gathered from the projects in our website Portfolio, unlike a traditional showroom, there isn’t going to be rows of TVs and speakers with most of the equipment discreetly concealed or positioned unobtrusively.
“A prime example is the speaker systems we install, either as part of a whole home solution or in the cinema room configuration. For years, customers wanted to see the speaker systems and there were certainly some stunning models that we supplied. However, the preference today is quite the opposite, with speakers and sub-woofers plastered into walls and ceilings so that they are completely invisible.”
“I’m already envisaging pointing at a blank wall and explaining to a potential customer what is going on behind the paint and plaster… I guess that will be a case of ‘hearing is believing’?”
“Much of the lighting is already in place with the majority being our own light fittings, which will be the first time we’ve had a dedicated space in which to demonstrate them. We’ll also be utilising Control4, Lutron lighting control and blinds and Heatmiser controls throughout so, again, another great opportunity for customers to come and experience these solutions for themselves.”
The new showroom may still very much be a work in progress and plenty of effort still required to get it ready for the June deadline, but everyone can see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.
“It’s been quite a leap of faith for us in that we have moved from our previous ‘home’ in Kirkby Lonsdale where we had been for over 12 years to these new premises that were previously an industrial unit and a commercial printers before that.” Adds Carol Burrow, Director at Majik House.
“Speaking honestly, this site was feeling quite unloved when we took possession, but we could immediately see the potential. Once finished, we believe we’ll have one of the best smart home showrooms in the country.”
“I keep reminding everyone here that every week we are making tangible strides towards completion, and that we shouldn’t also lose sight of the great work that Majik House continues to do for our clients.”
“To echo Tim’s comments, the bottom line remains that the quality of client projects and the deadlines we have committed to are something upon which we will never compromise.”
“On behalf of us all at Majik House, I’d like to thank all our customers for their patience and understanding whilst we work on the new showroom and, to echo Autumn’s words, promise that the wait will be worthwhile.”
